Jan Gay
Professional Background
Dr. Jan Gay is the Counseling Professor in the Department of Counselor Education for the School of Education. She brings with her 11 years of experience as a clinical social worker, 3 years as a professional school counselor, and 2 years as a teaching assistant, co-instructor, instructor of record, guest lecturer, and adjunct faculty across CACREP core and foundational courses.
In addition to her academic experience, Dr. Gay has a focused interest in anti-racist school counseling, multi-culturalism, social justice, and advocacy. She has written various publications and is currently an Editorial Board Member with the Journal of Employment Counseling (JEC) and a Holmes Scholar. In 2018-2019, she earned the ASA Sparks New Counselor of the Year award for the state of Alabama, the Alabama School of Counseling Association R.A.V.E. Silver Award, and the Bronze Award in 2017-2018.
