Demah S. Payne III
Professional Background
Dr. Demah S. Payne III is a visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Counselor Education. Prior to him teaching at St. Bonaventure University, he has had two years of experience as an adjunct professor at Wake Forest University and Northwestern University. Dr. Payne owns a private licensed clinical mental health practice in North Carolina and has even worked as a mental health counselor at Duke University. He has used his vast counseling background to teach courses such as CE 630 (Management of School Counseling programs) and CE 650 (School Counseling and Special Education).
Dr. Payne’s current research and projects include school counselors and the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on the social emotional development of adolescents and emerging adults. Through his years of work as a school counselor, crisis counselor and community counselor, he has come to focus his interests on marginalized and oppressed communities.
