Michael Gallagher
Professional Profile
Dr. Michael Gallaher earned a B.S. in finance from Fairfield University and enjoyed a long successful career trading capital markets. He traded government debt markets in Europe and subsequently the equity derivatives markets in the United States. Sensing the growing importance of quantitative analysis in capital markets, he returned to University and obtained an M.S. in mathematics. Discovering an enthusiasm for learning he was unable to appreciate as a younger student, he continued from the M.S. math degree into the Economics Ph.D. Program at Fordham University. It was at Fordham he discovered the rewards of teaching. He brings a wealth of business and finance experience along with a passion for learning into the classroom.
In addition to teaching, he has done considerable research on computer processes in analytics and finance including developing virtual computer platforms in the cloud that boast huge computing capacity in answer to the proliferation of “big data.” This research is pertinent to students, who need to be on the cutting edge of finance and analytics in today’s job market.
Dr. Gallagher has published in the Journal of Business and Accounting and the IUP Journal of Computer Sciences, as well as a chapter in a Springer Series book.
In the summer, he is usually sailing on Long Island Sound with his wife Angela.
