Michael J Fischer
Professional Profile
Dr. Fischer was an audit manager with the international CPA firm of Price Waterhouse prior to joining the St. Bonaventure faculty in 1985. In addition to serving on the faculty, he has held a variety of administrative positions at the University including Dean of the School of Business, and Provost & VP for Academic Affairs.
A firm believer in the value of local and regional economic development, Dr. Fischer has served or currently serves on the boards of directors of the Cattaraugus County Business Development Corporation, Olean Business Development Corporation, Cattaraugus County Empire Zone Corporation, and Olean General Hospital.
Dr. Fischer’s research has been published in such outlets as Accounting, Organizations, and Society; the Journal of Business Ethics; Advances in Accounting Education; the Journal of Accountancy; and The CPA Journal. His current scholarly interests include audit quality and the role of technological changes; financial accounting and auditing standard-setting; business ethics, including corporate social responsibility; and, accounting pedagogy.
Dr. Fischer lives in Allegany, NY with his wife, St. Bonaventure Professor Emeritus of Accounting, Dr. Carol Fischer. The Fischers have three adult children: Katie, Mark, and Claire.
