Professional Profile

Rebecca Ballou is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology in the DePerro School of Health Profession. Her background as a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist is very diverse. While she has spent the past 29 years primarily in the Missouri Public School System focusing on the Identification, Assessment, and Remediation of school-aged speech and language delays, she also spent 4 years as an Assistant Professor at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, teaching both undergraduate and graduate students and advising their Capstone Research. Additionally, she worked for Missouri First Steps providing in-home therapy for children from birth through age 3 for several years, which helped her develop a keen sense of the importance of the team-based care approach to therapy. 
She is passionate about many areas of her profession, not just on the way they serve their clients with excellence as SLPs but also ensuring that they are taking the time to advocate for themselves as professionals in the workplace. Her areas of interest are secondary education assessment and intervention, language and literacy development, mentorship and prevention of burnout/stress in our profession, career placement and planning for students with disabilities from age 18 on, and Executive Functioning Disorders.
