Del Rey M. Honeycutt
Professional Background
Dr. Del Rey M. Honeycutt is an adjunct professor and a counselor for the Education Graduate Program in the School of Education. In addition to teaching in the graduate program, Dr. Honeycutt has been the Associate Dean for Student and Community Well-Being at St. Bonaventure since 2021, overseeing health and counseling services as well as prevention education and health promotions, the Care Team, and the Behavior Intervention Team. She is also a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York. Dr. Honeycutt holds three degrees: a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Arizona, an M.S.C. in Community Counseling from the University of Phoenix, and a Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Walden University.
Dr. Honeycutt has taught a variety of courses, including Introduction to Professional Counseling, Crisis Counseling, Group Counseling, Theories and Techniques, Counseling Interventions, Practicum, Internship I, and Internship II. She fosters a classroom environment filled with discussion, enabling students to learn from one another. One of her favorite quotes is by Nelson Mandela: ‘Do not judge me by my successes. Judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.’
Her career in higher education began in 2012 at Christopher Newport University as the Assistant Director for Counseling Services, where she was also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia. Since then, and before SBU, Dr. Honeycutt held the role of Wellness Center Director at Alfred University. All previous experience in mental and behavioral health was in the community or government sectors, including work in agencies, schools, and homes in Tucson, AZ.
Dr. Honeycutt has knowledge and experience in crisis management, risk assessment, behavior intervention, and threat assessment. She has conducted evaluations for attorneys, courts, group homes, and universities, and she has been a member and consultant for her previous university’s Behavior Assessment and Intervention Teams. Dr. Honeycutt’s publications include ‘Rape Myth Acceptance and Attitudes Toward Bystander Intervention Among Division III College Student Athletes and Nonathletes,’ published in the Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies, and ‘Treatment of students with sexual deviant or offending behaviors: Should college counseling centers go there?’ published in the Journal of College Student Psychotherapy.
